I'm the first person in my family to go to university. I'm studying an accounting degree at Cape Town University, and I'm two terms away from graduating. I have worked as a night-shift cleaner to pay my way, but this term my hours were cut and I have an unpaid balance of $900. The registrar has told me I can't enroll for the next term until the balance is cleared. I have a top-ten-percent average, and my professor has written in support of my application for a payment plan. Graduating means a stable job and the chance to support my younger siblings. Without enrolling this term I'd lose my place and my scholarship eligibility. I'm not asking for a handout - I want to finish what I started and then help the next student. The payment will go directly to the Cape Town University bursar's office. I'll post the receipt. Where the $900 goes: • Outstanding tuition balance: $310 • Final term tuition: $490 • Exam and lab fees: $30 • Textbooks and materials: $70 I'll pay this kindness forward the moment I'm able to. - Sipho F

So sorry you're going through this, Sipho F. Hope this works out for you. I went through something like this 6 years ago and strangers helped me out.

    • Hang in there. Education changes everything, hope you graduate with honors. Don't lose heart. A few weeks ago I was in a hole too and it changed faster than I expected. Blessings.

      • Thinking of you. Good luck with the exams, you've got this. I told my book club about it and three of them are giving too.
