Sandton
For twelve years I have run a phone repair counter in Sandton. In August, floodwater took a soldering station and testing tools. I have no insurance, and the bank won't lend to me. Before that, my customers came every Sunday, and I employed 3 people from the neighborhood. I have been out of business for 3 weeks. This business pays my children's school fees and rent. I have already started working from home in small ways, but I can't meet orders without proper equipment. Every contribution brings me closer to reopening, and I promise to post photos as I buy each item. I'll buy equipment from local suppliers and post photos and receipts as I go. Where the $750 goes: • Initial stock: replacement parts: $200 • Replacing a soldering station and testing tools: $460 • Shop repairs and licensing: $90 Ask me anything below before you decide. I'd rather you were sure. - Marlene

    • is there a list of costs somewhere? Just curious how it adds up for Marlene

Sure. The biggest one is initial stock: replacement parts, $200. The rest is in the list at the bottom of the post and I'll upload receipts as I pay each one. It helps to be asked.

    • hope things get better soon. I hope things turn around soon. Don't lose heart. A few weeks ago I was in a hole too and it changed faster than I expected.

      • Hope things get better soon, Marlene. Your post was clear and honest. I went through something like this 3 years ago and strangers helped me out.

        • Praying for you. I'd happily buy from you once you're back up. My daughter saw me on my phone and now she wants to give her pocket money. All the best

          • Hang in there, Marlene. I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier. The breakdown of costs made it easy to trust.
