Hugo was diagnosed with kidney cancer in June. The oncology team at the Los Angeles Oncology Institute has planned 10 rounds of treatment, starting in October. He will be away from work for about 7 weeks.
Hugo is 35, worked as a nurse until June, and has always been the one who looks after everyone else. Now it's our turn to look after him.
Treatment is covered only in part. Medication that isn't on the approved list, trips to the Los Angeles Oncology Institute 3 times a week, and the income the family has lost add up quickly.
We've already sold what we could and have begun borrowing for groceries. Every kindness from you takes weight off his shoulders.
Funds will be used only for treatment, medication, transport to appointments and essential living costs during treatment.
Where the $6,800 goes:
• Chemotherapy and medication not covered: $5,250
• Transport to the Los Angeles Oncology Institute: $760
• Nutrition and supplements prescribed by the care team: $790
