Hani was diagnosed with an aortic valve defect in June. The surgeon at Jakarta University Hospital recommended septoplasty, and She is scheduled for September. The hospital's financial office gave us a written estimate of $800, and after what the government subsidy will pay we're still $600 short. my mother has been in and out of Jakarta University Hospital since June. The doctors say an aortic valve defect will get worse without septoplasty. We have emptied our savings and borrowed from relatives, but the estimate of $800 is more than we can find. While we wait, Hani struggles with daily life and can't climb stairs. Her family has taken turns caring for her, and I've cut my own work hours to be there. Recovery is expected to take about 4 weeks. During that time Hani won't be able to climb stairs, so the costs keep growing.
