Atieno is facing stage 2 breast cancer and the cost of treatment, travel and care at home is far beyond what the family can cover.

Atieno was diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer in August. The oncology team at Dar es Salaam University Hospital has planned 12 rounds of treatment, starting in November. She will be away from work for about 12 weeks.
Atieno is 39, worked as a cleaner at a hospital until August, and has always been the one who looks after everyone else. Now it's our turn to look after her.
Treatment is covered only in part. Medication that isn't on the approved list, trips to Dar es Salaam University Hospital 5 times a week, and the income the family has lost add up quickly.
We've already sold what we could and have begun borrowing for groceries. Every kindness from you takes weight off her shoulders.
Funds will be used only for treatment, medication, transport to appointments and essential living costs during treatment.
Where the $1,350 goes:
• Chemotherapy and medication not covered: $840
• Scans and lab work: $180
• Household costs while unable to work: $200
• Nutrition and supplements prescribed by the care team: $130
