Kipchoge is facing stage 3 ovarian cancer and the cost of treatment, travel and care at home is far beyond what the family can cover.

Mombasa
In August I was diagnosed with stage 3 ovarian cancer. My oncology team at the Mombasa Oncology Institute has planned 8 rounds of treatment, and the first starts in October. I was told to expect about 12 weeks away from work. I never imagined I'd be writing something like this. I'm 43, I worked as a tailor until August, and I have been the main earner for my household. Treatment is covered only in part. Medication that isn't on the approved list, transport to the Mombasa Oncology Institute 5 times a week, and the income I have lost add up quickly. My family is doing everything they can, but we've already sold what we could and are borrowing for groceries. Funds will be used only for treatment, medication, transport to appointments and essential living costs during treatment. Where the $1,050 goes: • Chemotherapy and medication not covered: $650 • Nutrition and supplements prescribed by the care team: $130 • Transport to the Mombasa Oncology Institute: $105 • Household costs while unable to work: $165 I never thought I'd be the one asking, and I'm grateful for every bit of support. - Kipchoge

Updates from Kipchoge

  1. Small update. $50 so far, we've booked the dates and paid the deposit. - Kipchoge

  2. Quick update: $75 raised so far (7%). I met with the treatment center and confirmed the amounts. Receipts coming as soon as I have them.

  3. Update from Mombasa: I made the first payment toward household costs while unable to work. We're at 11% of the goal. Thank you for believing in us. - Kipchoge
