In May I was diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer. My oncology team at Bursa Regional Medical Center has planned 4 rounds of treatment, and the first starts in August. I was told to expect about 5 weeks away from work.
I never imagined I'd be writing something like this. I'm 53, I worked as a primary school teacher until May, and I have been the main earner for my household.
Treatment is covered only in part. Medication that isn't on the approved list, transport to Bursa Regional Medical Center 5 times a week, and the income I have lost add up quickly.
My family is doing everything they can, but we've already sold what we could and are borrowing for groceries.
Funds will be used only for treatment, medication, transport to appointments and essential living costs during treatment.
Where the $1,950 goes:
• Transport to Bursa Regional Medical Center: $175
• Household costs while unable to work: $310
• Chemotherapy and medication not covered: $1,100
• Scans and lab work: $365
