Fighting multiple myeloma: help Luiz afford treatment in Petrópolis
Luiz is facing multiple myeloma and the cost of treatment, travel and care at home is far beyond what the family can cover.

In May I was diagnosed with multiple myeloma. My oncology team at Petrópolis Cancer Centre has planned 10 rounds of treatment, and the first starts in July. I was told to expect about 4 weeks away from work.
I never imagined I'd be writing something like this. I'm 43, I worked as a hairdresser until May, and I have been the main earner for my household.
Treatment is covered only in part. Medication that isn't on the approved list, transport to Petrópolis Cancer Centre 2 times a week, and the income I have lost add up quickly.
My family is doing everything they can, but we've already sold what we could and are borrowing for groceries.
Funds will be used only for treatment, medication, transport to appointments and essential living costs during treatment.
Where the $2,700 goes:
• Nutrition and supplements prescribed by the care team: $135
• Scans and lab work: $490
• Chemotherapy and medication not covered: $2,075
