In March I was diagnosed with early-stage lung cancer. My oncology team at Peoria University Hospital has planned 10 rounds of treatment, and the first starts in May. I was told to expect about 3 weeks away from work.
I never imagined I'd be writing something like this. I'm 29, I worked as a hairdresser until March, and I have been the main earner for my household.
Treatment is covered only in part. Medication that isn't on the approved list, transport to Peoria University Hospital 3 times a week, and the income I have lost add up quickly.
My family is doing everything they can, but we've already sold what we could and are borrowing for groceries.
Funds will be used only for treatment, medication, transport to appointments and essential living costs during treatment.
Where the $9,450 goes:
• Scans and lab work: $1,700
• Transport to Peoria University Hospital: $470
• Chemotherapy and medication not covered: $6,250
• Household costs while unable to work: $1,030
