Joaquim was diagnosed with early-stage lung cancer in February. The oncology team at Porto Alegre Cancer Centre has planned 8 rounds of treatment, starting in May. He will be away from work for about 8 weeks.
Joaquim is 37, worked as a bank teller until February, and has always been the one who looks after everyone else. Now it's our turn to look after him.
Treatment is covered only in part. Medication that isn't on the approved list, trips to Porto Alegre Cancer Centre 3 times a week, and the income the family has lost add up quickly.
We've already sold what we could and have begun borrowing for groceries. Every kindness from you takes weight off his shoulders.
Funds will be used only for treatment, medication, transport to appointments and essential living costs during treatment.
Where the $2,650 goes:
• Transport to Porto Alegre Cancer Centre: $330
• Chemotherapy and medication not covered: $1,900
• Scans and lab work: $310
• Nutrition and supplements prescribed by the care team: $110
