Fighting early-stage lung cancer: help Bakari afford treatment in Kampala
Bakari is facing early-stage lung cancer and the cost of treatment, travel and care at home is far beyond what the family can cover.
🇺🇬 Uganda1,064 views
Bakari was diagnosed with early-stage lung cancer in December. The oncology team at the Kampala Oncology Institute has planned 10 rounds of treatment, starting in March. He will be away from work for about 4 weeks.
Bakari is 33, worked as a cleaner at a hospital until December, and has always been the one who looks after everyone else. Now it's our turn to look after him.
Treatment is covered only in part. Medication that isn't on the approved list, trips to the Kampala Oncology Institute 3 times a week, and the income the family has lost add up quickly.
We've already sold what we could and have begun borrowing for groceries. Every kindness from you takes weight off his shoulders.
I'll post every invoice and receipt as an update so donors can follow where each gift goes.
Where the $550 goes:
• Nutrition and supplements prescribed by the care team: $105
• Household costs while unable to work: $170
• Scans and lab work: $165
• Transport to the Kampala Oncology Institute: $110
Even a small gift gets used right away and I'll thank you myself.

Is there a list of costs somewhere? Just curious how it adds up for Bakari.
The list at the bottom is the whole picture. nutrition and supplements prescribed by the care team is the biggest at $105. Thanks, that means a lot.
Good luck, Apio. I work in healthcare and wanted you to know people are on your side. I went through something like this 3 years ago and strangers helped me out
Wishing you peace. Look after yourselves too, caregivers need rest. We lost years of savings to something like this so I get it. Love from Saint-Denis.
