In May I was diagnosed with a rare sarcoma. My oncology team at Belo Horizonte Cancer Centre has planned 4 rounds of treatment, and the first starts in August. I was told to expect about 3 weeks away from work. I never imagined I'd be writing something like this. I'm 51, I worked as a shop owner until May, and I have been the main earner for my household. Treatment is covered only in part. Medication that isn't on the approved list, transport to Belo Horizonte Cancer Centre 3 times a week, and the income I have lost add up quickly. My family is doing everything they can, but we've already sold what we could and are borrowing for groceries. Funds will be used only for treatment, medication, transport to appointments and essential living costs during treatment. Where the $2,700 goes: • Scans and lab work: $440 • Household costs while unable to work: $430 • Chemotherapy and medication not covered: $1,600 • Nutrition and supplements prescribed by the care team: $230 I'll keep this page updated with receipts as things happen. - Miguel
