Feed 319 families each week at the Second Helping in Pretoria
The the Second Helping pantry in Pretoria is running low just as demand rises; $500 will stock it for 8 weeks.
🇿🇦 Pretoria, Gauteng, South Africa979 views
Since 2020, our volunteer team has run the Second Helping every Friday from the back of a community center. We started with 12 families, and now we feed 319 each week.
Donations have dropped by about 54% this harvest gap, while the line has grown every single week.
We rely on volunteers - 15 of us - and keep no salaries or overhead. I buy staples at wholesale prices at the Pretoria market and keep every receipt.
Each $10 feeds a family of four for a week.
I'll post the weekly shopping receipts and a photo of the shelves each Sunday.
Where the $500 goes:
• Fresh vegetables and fruit: $210
• Refrigeration and electricity: $80
• Rice, beans, flour and oil (wholesale): $210
Thank you for reading my story.

Is there a list of costs somewhere? Just curious how it adds up for Suren
Fresh vegetables and fruit is $210 of it. Everything else is listed in the story and nothing outside that list comes out of this page.
Hope things get better soon, Suren. I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier. This is the second need I've supported on here and the first that made me cry. Blessings
hope the build day goes well, wish I lived closer. God bless!
