The the Thursday Table pantry in Paarl is running low just as demand rises; $800 will stock it for 9 weeks.

Since 2020, our volunteer team has run the Thursday Table every Thursday from the back of a school canteen. We started with 25 families, and now we feed 216 each week.
Donations have dropped by about 52% this school holidays, while the line has grown every single week.
We rely on volunteers - 15 of us - and keep no salaries or overhead. I buy staples at wholesale prices at the Paarl market and keep every receipt.
Each $5 feeds a family of four for a week.
All of the funds go to groceries, fresh produce, and cold-storage costs.
Where the $800 goes:
• Rice, beans, flour and oil (wholesale): $260
• Fresh vegetables and fruit: $300
• Baby formula and diapers: $175
• Refrigeration and electricity: $65

How is Dumisani doing now?
You're not alone. I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier. My father had a similar thing happen so this one hit home
