Feed 214 families each week at the Second Helping in Bakersfield
The the Second Helping pantry in Bakersfield is running low just as demand rises; $2,900 will stock it for 7 weeks.

Since 2020, our volunteer team has run the Second Helping every Thursday from the back of a community center. We started with 27 families, and now we feed 214 each week.
Donations have dropped by about 35% this school holidays, while the line has grown every single week.
We rely on volunteers - 7 of us - and keep no salaries or overhead. I buy staples at wholesale prices at the Bakersfield market and keep every receipt.
Each $35 feeds a family of four for a week.
All of the funds go to groceries, fresh produce, and cold-storage costs.
Where the $2,900 goes:
• Rice, beans, flour and oil (wholesale): $1,400
• Fresh vegetables and fruit: $880
• Baby formula and diapers: $330
• Refrigeration and electricity: $290
Thank you so much.

Updates from Harper
Thank you all. We're at 1% now ($17). I'm honestly stunned. I made the first payment toward fresh vegetables and fruit.
