Naliaka was diagnosed with osteoarthritis in the right knee in August. The surgeon at Mombasa Community Hospital recommended emergency hernia repair, and She is scheduled for November. The hospital's financial office gave us a written estimate of $190, and after what my insurance will pay we're still $150 short. my sister has been in and out of Mombasa Community Hospital since August. The doctors say osteoarthritis in the right knee will get worse without emergency hernia repair. We have emptied our savings and borrowed from relatives, but the estimate of $190 is more than we can find. While we wait, Naliaka struggles with daily life and can't work a full shift. Her family has taken turns caring for her, and I've cut my own work hours to be there. Rehabilitation is expected to take about 8 weeks. During that time Naliaka won't be able to work a full shift, so the costs keep growing. I'll pay the hospital and pharmacy directly and post every receipt in the updates section. Where the $150 goes: • Pre-operative tests and imaging: $55 • Travel and lodging for the family: $40 • Post-operative medication: $55 I never thought I'd be the one asking, and I'm grateful for every bit of support.
