Clean water and shade for Busan: restoring the Lotus canal
Volunteers are restoring the Lotus canal in Busan; $700 covers saplings, tools and waste removal.
🇰🇷 Busan, South Korea1,102 views
The Lotus canal has been used as an informal dump for years. This August, 74 neighbors turned up for a first cleanup, filling 135 bags in a single morning. Now we want to restore it for good.
We have a plan agreed with the district council, including native species selected by a local botanist.
The area floods more each year, and fish have returned for the first time in a decade after our first cleanup. Restoring it will protect homes and bring back shade.
All the labor is volunteered. We just need materials.
We'll post planting day photos and a count of every sapling planted.
Where the $700 goes:
• Signage and educational materials: $65
• Tools and protective gear: $230
• Waste removal and skip hire: $405
Even a small gift gets used right away and I'll thank you myself.
Updates from Young-ja
Good news. Because of your gifts ($300 in total) the plan for signage and educational materials is now scheduled. Still a way to go but it feels less lonely.

Praying for you. Reading this made my day a bit heavier but I'm glad I did. My sister had a similar thing happen so this one hit home.
