Clean streets and rivers for Obuasi: restoring the Acacia riverbank
A neighborhood-led restoration of the Acacia riverbank needs $350 for saplings and equipment.
🇬🇭 Ghana1,214 views
The Acacia riverbank has been used as an informal dump for years. This March, 41 neighbors turned up for a first cleanup, filling 117 bags in a single morning. Now we want to restore it for good.
We have a plan agreed with the city parks department, including native species selected by a local botanist.
The area floods more each year, and fish have returned for the first time in a decade after our first cleanup. Restoring it will protect homes and bring back shade.
All the labor is volunteered. We just need materials.
We'll post planting day photos and a count of every sapling planted.
Where the $350 goes:
• Native saplings and stakes: $140
• Tools and protective gear: $85
• Waste removal and skip hire: $95
• Signage and educational materials: $30
You're what makes this possible, and I'll never forget it.

Take care, Akua. Everyone deserves a bit of help sometimes. All the best
Hope it all works out. Looking forward to the next update. My late mom used to say help given quietly counts double.
Sending good thoughts, Akua. Projects like this are what make a place worth living in. Read this on the bus and kept thinking about it all day. Blessings.
