Clean streets and rivers for Duisburg: restoring Union Creek
Volunteers are restoring Union Creek in Duisburg; $1,500 covers saplings, tools and waste removal.
Anywhere in the world1,257 views
Union Creek has been used as an informal dump for years. This February, 95 neighbors turned up for a first cleanup, filling 176 bags in a single morning. Now we want to restore it for good.
We have a plan agreed with the local forestry office, including native species selected by a local botanist.
The area floods more each year, and fish have returned for the first time in a decade after our first cleanup. Restoring it will protect homes and bring back shade.
All the labor is volunteered. We just need materials.
We'll post planting day photos and a count of every sapling planted.
Where the $1,500 goes:
• Tools and protective gear: $350
• Native saplings and stakes: $1,050
• Signage and educational materials: $100
I never thought I'd be the one asking, and I'm grateful for every bit of support.

shared this with my family. Love from Addis Ababa.
Sending love. It takes guts to ask. Well done. It's not much but it's yours. Thinking of Duisburg
Hang in there, Marlene. This could happen to any of us. This is the second need I've supported on here and the first that made me cry. Take care.
