Clean air and water for Kathmandu: restoring Sycamore Creek
A neighborhood-led restoration of Sycamore Creek needs $305 for saplings and equipment.
🇳🇵 Bagmati, Nepal447 views
Sycamore Creek has been used as an informal dump for years. This May, 36 neighbors turned up for a first cleanup, filling 81 bags in a single morning. Now we want to restore it for good.
We have a plan agreed with the local forestry office, including native species selected by a local botanist.
The area floods more each year, and fish have returned for the first time in a decade after our first cleanup. Restoring it will protect homes and bring back shade.
All the labor is volunteered. We just need materials.
We'll post planting day photos and a count of every sapling planted.
Where the $305 goes:
• Native saplings and stakes: $200
• Tools and protective gear: $60
• Waste removal and skip hire: $40
• Signage and educational materials: $5
Glad we found this place.

thinking of you, Rabin. Your post was clear and honest. Thinking of Kathmandu.
Best of luck, Rabin. Gave what I could, wish it was more. Love from Kolkata
What's already covered and what's the $305 for?
Everything on the list is an amount I've been quoted or invoiced. native saplings and stakes comes first ($200) and I'll update the page as each thing gets paid. Thanks for asking.
best of luck. More neighborhoods should do this. I told my book club about it and three of them are giving too.
Thinking of you and your family. Looking forward to the next update. It's not much but it's yours. God bless.
