Cataract surgery for Savannah: covering what insurance won't
A scheduled cataract surgery in September is out of reach without help covering $4,950 of the cost.

Savannah was diagnosed with severe cataracts in both eyes in July. The surgeon at Sheffield Orthopedic Institute recommended cataract surgery, and She is scheduled for September. The hospital's financial office gave us a written estimate of $6,250, and after what my employer's plan will pay we're still $4,950 short.
my sister has been in and out of Sheffield Orthopedic Institute since July. The doctors say severe cataracts in both eyes will get worse without cataract surgery. We have emptied our savings and borrowed from relatives, but the estimate of $6,250 is more than we can find.
While we wait, Savannah struggles with daily life and can't lift anything heavy. Her family has taken turns caring for her, and I've cut my own work hours to be there.
Recovery is expected to take about 8 weeks. During that time Savannah won't be able to lift anything heavy, so the costs keep growing.
I'll pay the hospital and pharmacy directly and post every receipt in the updates section.
Where the $4,950 goes:
• Surgeon and anesthesia fees: $1,450
• Hospital stay (3 nights): $2,300
• Pre-operative tests and imaging: $410
• Post-operative medication: $145
• Physiotherapy sessions: $370
• Travel and lodging for the family: $275
