Brooklyn

For five years the neighborhood has asked for a youth football pitch. This year a group of 18 volunteers, including two retired carpenters, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for the Freedom health centre yard, but no funding. We have received donated soil and plants, and the remaining cost is $3,450. It will serve about 347 people, including children, seniors and people with disabilities. We'll hold a build day in December and everyone is invited. We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos. Funds are spent only on materials, permits and safety equipment; all labor is volunteered. Where the $3,450 goes: • Materials: $2,650 • Permits and inspections: $340 • Safety equipment and signage: $460 You're what makes this possible, and I'll never forget it. - Alejandro
