I live with a rare neuromuscular condition. My occupational therapist at the Houston Rehabilitation Centre has assessed me and recommended a pair of hearing aids. The public scheme doesn't cover it, and the quote from the supplier is $2,400.
My current equipment is 12 years old and keeps breaking, which has confined me to home for 3 weeks.
With the right equipment I could speak with the people around him. It would change my everyday life and my ability to work from home.
We've applied to two charities already and received small contributions; this campaign covers the rest.
Funds go toward the equipment, delivery, fitting and a year of servicing.
Where the $2,400 goes:
• pair of hearing aids: $1,750
• Fitting and training sessions: $380
• Delivery and set-up: $130
• First-year servicing plan: $140
