My family left Afghanistan 9 months ago after the war reached our town. We spent time in a camp before we were resettled in Birmingham. We're a family of seven and we're safe, but we arrived with very little. Our resettlement agency has provided 2 months of rent, and that support ends in May. I was a mechanic in Afghanistan, and I'm studying the language every evening. Our daughter and son have started school and are doing well. We want nothing more than to be self-sufficient. This fund will help us through the first six months. Funds are managed by the Birmingham Refugee Support Network, a registered organization, which pays the landlord and suppliers on the family's behalf. Where the $850 goes: • Beds, table and basic furniture: $530 • Language classes and bus passes: $230 • Phone and internet for school and job search: $90 Thanks for reading all this.

  2. Quick update: $270 raised so far (32%). I met with the landlord and confirmed the amounts. Receipts coming as soon as I have them.

  3. Update from Birmingham: we've booked the dates and paid the deposit. We're at 15% of the goal. Thank you for believing in us.
