A free library and reading room for Pioneer Park: help our neighbors in Bakersfield
We have the land, the volunteers and the plan for a free library and reading room - we need $2,250 for materials.

For eight years the neighborhood has asked for a free library and reading room. This year a group of 17 volunteers, including a retired civil engineer, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for Pioneer Park, but no funding.
We have received donated paint, and the remaining cost is $2,250.
It will serve about 503 people, including children, seniors and people with disabilities. We'll hold a build day in November and everyone is invited.
We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos.
All purchases will be made by two volunteers and logged publicly. Surplus funds will go to maintenance.
Where the $2,250 goes:
• Permits and inspections: $290
• Materials: $1,750
• Safety equipment and signage: $210
I hope life is good to you.
