A free library and reading room: a volunteer-led effort in Üsküdar
Volunteers in Üsküdar are raising $350 for a free library and reading room at Liberty Primary School.
🇹🇷 Üsküdar, Istanbul, Türkiye504 views
For five years the neighborhood has asked for a free library and reading room. This year a group of 23 volunteers, including the parish youth group, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for Liberty Primary School, but no funding.
We have received donated timber, and the remaining cost is $350.
It will serve about 107 people, including young people who have nowhere safe to play. We'll hold a build day in November and everyone is invited.
We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos.
Funds are spent only on materials, permits and safety equipment; all labor is volunteered.
Where the $350 goes:
• Materials: $230
• Permits and inspections: $40
• Safety equipment and signage: $45
• Tools hire and delivery: $35
With deep gratitude,
Yusuf

you're not alone. Looking forward to the next update. Our whole street has been following this since the weekend.
Hope the build day goes well, wish I lived closer. I hope November is when things finally get easier. All the best.
Sending good thoughts. Reading this made my day a bit heavier but I'm glad I did. I'm in public service myself and wanted you to know we're cheering for you. God bless.
