A free library and reading room: a volunteer-led effort in Liverpool
We have the land, the volunteers and the plan for a free library and reading room - we need $2,500 for materials.
🇬🇧 Liverpool, England, United Kingdom550 views
For twelve years the neighborhood has asked for a free library and reading room. This year a group of 15 volunteers, including the neighborhood football club, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for Maple Park, but no funding.
We have received donated timber, and the remaining cost is $2,500.
It will serve about 96 people, including elderly neighbors living alone. We'll hold a build day in October and everyone is invited.
We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos.
All purchases will be made by two volunteers and logged publicly. Surplus funds will go to maintenance.
Where the $2,500 goes:
• Materials: $2,050
• Permits and inspections: $230
• Tools hire and delivery: $220
I'll pay this kindness forward the moment I'm able to.

Good luck. Shared it with a few friends. I told my book club about it and three of them are giving too. Take care!
