A free library and reading room: a volunteer-led effort in Ibadan
We have the land, the volunteers and the plan for a free library and reading room - we need $300 for materials.
🇳🇬 Ibadan, Oyo, Nigeria1,007 views
For three years the neighborhood has asked for a free library and reading room. This year a group of 16 volunteers, including a group of teenagers, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for the Lotus vacant lot, but no funding.
We have received donated soil and plants, and the remaining cost is $300.
It will serve about 310 people, including children, seniors and people with disabilities. We'll hold a build day in June and everyone is invited.
We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos.
Funds are spent only on materials, permits and safety equipment; all labor is volunteered.
Where the $300 goes:
• Materials: $185
• Permits and inspections: $35
• Safety equipment and signage: $25
• Tools hire and delivery: $55
If you're reading this, thank you.
