For five years the neighborhood has asked for a covered market stall space. This year a group of 26 volunteers, including a retired civil engineer, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for the Baobab vacant lot, but no funding. We have received donated volunteer hours worth about $990, and the remaining cost is $2,700. It will serve about 408 people, including children, seniors and people with disabilities. We'll hold a build day in January and everyone is invited. We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos. Funds are spent only on materials, permits and safety equipment; all labor is volunteered. Where the $2,700 goes: • Materials: $2,150 • Permits and inspections: $210 • Safety equipment and signage: $170 • Tools hire and delivery: $170 Thanks for reading all this.

    • keep going, Asuka. Gave what I could, wish it was more. After 14 years in hospitality I know how hard it is to ask for anything!
