A community fridge: a volunteer-led effort in Jakarta

For five years the neighborhood has asked for a community fridge. This year a group of 22 volunteers, including local mothers, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for the Sycamore vacant lot, but no funding. We have received donated paint, and the remaining cost is $350. It will serve about 503 people, including school children and their families. We'll hold a build day in November and everyone is invited. We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos. All purchases will be made by two volunteers and logged publicly. Surplus funds will go to maintenance. Where the $350 goes: • Materials: $190 • Permits and inspections: $60 • Safety equipment and signage: $70 • Tools hire and delivery: $30 Ask me anything below before you decide. I'd rather you were sure. - Dian
